eno energy: 20 years wind energy

25.04.2019
eno energy GmbH: Wind power pioneer celebrates 20-year company anniversary eno presents itself at the Renewable Energy Day in Rostock

The eno energy Group from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is one of the pioneers of wind power and thus an integral part of the energy transition for Germany. The company has been planning wind farms for 20 years, has been manufacturing turbines and components since 2007 and provides operational management as well as maintenance and service for the turbines. With locations in Rerik and Rostock, among others, the company employs a total of 180 people and six trainees, and the trend is rising. With branches in Helsingborg and Paris, eno has also been active in Sweden and France for many years.

While eno energy was purely a project planning office in the first few years, Karsten Porm – founder, managing director and shareholder of the eno Group – focused on setting up his own wind turbine production at the Rostock site from 2007 onwards. The first wind turbine developed and manufactured in-house, an eno 82 with a rated output of 2.0 MW, a hub height of 101 m and a rotor blade diameter of 82 m, was installed by eno in 2008 at the Fienstorf wind farm.  Since then, eno has developed projects with over 160 MW in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and installed 60 eno turbines. In the 2018 operating year, eno turbines fed around 283 GWh of renewable energy into the public grid – enough to supply over 80,000 average households with electricity.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern occupies a top position in Germany in the use of wind energy. In 2018, 3,245 MW of onshore wind capacity were installed, which corresponds to 1,818 turbines. This means that around half of gross electricity generation is covered by wind energy.

On the occasion of eno energy’s 20th anniversary, Managing Director Karsten Porm says: “20 years can only have been the beginning. Our know-how in project development, turbine manufacturing and in the support of installed wind turbines are a solid foundation for the future. I am convinced that we must intensify our efforts for climate protection in order to live up to our responsibility towards future generations. As eno, we are ready with 180 motivated employees. But politics must also become active and remove obstacles so that innovations can prove themselves on the market under fair conditions.”
